THE POSITION

As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager with the Department of Transportation, Dauphin County, you will have an opportunity to help shape safe and reliable roadways for local communities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports the County Maintenance Manager by helping oversee roadway and bridge maintenance across an assigned area of Dauphin County. As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, you will perform the following duties:

• Program Planning: Develop maintenance plans, estimates, and schedules for surface treatment, patching, snow removal, signage, and bridge repair


• Crew Supervision: Lead highway and bridge maintenance crews and coordinate minor construction activities


• Work Evaluation: Review work plans, resource requests, and project needs to support operational goals


• Agility Coordination: Manage agility agreements and meet with local partners to set priorities for shared services


• Emergency Management: Oversee incident response activities and ensure compliance with environmental permits


• Inspection Oversight: Conduct inspections and monitor both staff work and contracted maintenance tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment


• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.


• This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS).


• **Telework:**You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or


• Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or


• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
