Job summary

Northborough-Southborough Public Schools' Southborough Extended Day Program seeks an Assistant Group Leader to support before/after school activities. You will work with a Group Leader or Site Coordinator to engage children in planned activities and maintain a positive environment.

The role requires at least 16 years old, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills. It offers part-time hours in a school setting with training including CPR and First Aid.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age; work permit required if necessary.
  • A sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
  • Desire to promote the growth and development of students.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision of the students

Responsibilities

  • Assist with identifying and meeting students' physical and emotional needs and facilitate a positive before/after school experience for students.
  • Assist in the planned activities which may include preparation.
  • Develop or change activities to meet the needs of the children.
  • Treat children with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive approach with all students at all times.
  • Assist in maintaining the room's general housekeeping, decor, and appearance.
  • Attend all staff meetings and mandatory training including CPR and First Aid.
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and greet them during pick-up.
  • Implement planned projects (cooking, art, science, music, drama) with groups of children.
  • Establish a daily routine with indoor/outdoor activities, projects, games, and dramatic play.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and improve performance.
  • Be culturally competent and provide an inclusive environment for all learners and colleagues.
  • Account for students at all times; know students by name and note positives about each student.
  • Maintain composure under challenging circumstances.
  • Help maintain order during snack and activity times.
  • Contribute to yearly progress reports for extended day students.
  • Fulfill required Professional Development; probationary period is six months.
  • Other duties as needed

Job Title: Assistant Group Leader

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Non-Aligned

Reports to: SEDP Program Director

Assistant Group Leaders will be responsible for interacting with the children in a positive manner and assist in activities, clean up and upkeep of the Extended Day space. The Assistant Group Leaders will always be teamed with a Group Leader or Site Coordinator.

Essential Job Duties
  • Assist with identifying and meeting students physical and emotional needs and facilitate a positive before/after school experience for students
  • Assist in the planned activities which may include preparation
  • To have a flexible approach so that you can develop or change activities to meet the needs of the children
  • Treat children with dignity and respect
  • Maintains a positive and supportive approach with all students at all times
  • Assisting in the general housekeeping of the room; including the ordered arrangement, appearance and décor
  • Attending all staff meetings and mandatory training sessions including CPR and First Aid
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with parents; greeting them each day as they arrive to pick-up their child
  • Implementing planned projects such as cooking, art, science, music, and drama with large or small groups of children
  • Assisting in establishing a daily routine that include both indoor and outdoor activities, projects, games, special interest groups and dramatic play.
  • Exhibits a desire and captivity to learn, grow and to improve their own performance
  • Is culturally competent ad provides and inclusive environment for all learners and colleagues
  • Accounts for students at all times
  • Knows all students by name and is able to identify sometime positive about each student
  • Maintains pose and composure at all times even under challenging circumstances
  • Assists in maintaining order in the program at all times including at snack and during activity times
  • Contribute to yearly progress reports on extended day students
  • Fulfill the required amount of Professional Development
  • This position has a six month probationary period
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Other duties as needed
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Work is performed in school environments and several off site locations (ex: field trips)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, run, walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to navigate uneven terrain in the form of sand, hills, concrete and woods
  • Must be able to ascend and descend large staircases while carrying an inflatable
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 45 pounds
  • Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
  • Must be able to participate in all student activities

Attire: group leaders must come to work clean, neat, and with the appropriate attire to work with students in a variety of settings. Group Leaders should wear sneakers or closed-toed shoes to be able to work with students in a variety of learning, sports, and play settings.
