Job summary

Spring Island Club seeks an experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join the Golf Course Maintenance leadership team at Old Tabby Links, Okatie, SC. You will contribute to agronomic programs and daily turf management to deliver championship-quality conditions.

This role emphasizes leadership, safety, and ongoing education while working with a skilled team to maintain exceptional playing conditions and turf health across the course.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and golf course maintenance experience.
• Two to three years of golf course maintenance experience with increasing leadership responsibilities.
• South Carolina Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain one within an agreed-upon timeframe.
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems, moisture management, fertilizer programs, pesticide applications, and equipment operation.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, safety procedures, and product labels.
• Knowledge of pesticide and fertilizer calibration and application techniques.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing advanced water management strategies.
• Monitor soil moisture levels and interpret agronomic data.
• Assist with fertilizer and pesticide programs including calibration and recordkeeping.
• Evaluate course conditions daily and recommend maintenance modifications.
• Assist with irrigation scheduling and central control system operation.
• Operate and train staff on golf course maintenance equipment.
• Support tournament preparation, cultural practices, and special projects.
• Maintain an organized maintenance facility and fleet.
• Supervise, train, mentor, and motivate staff to maintain club standards.
• Promote safe work practices and ongoing staff development.
• Maintain pesticide application records and licenses.
• Continuing education to stay current with turfgrass management advances.
