Job summary

Old Tabby Links at Spring Island Club is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our maintenance leadership team. This role provides hands-on experience in agronomic planning, irrigation and moisture management, fertility and pesticide programs, and crew leadership as you prepare for a future as a superintendent.

You will work closely with the Superintendents on all aspects of golf course management, budgeting, equipment operations, and strategic decision-making,

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and golf course maintenance experience.
  • Two to three years of golf course maintenance experience with increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • South Carolina Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one within an agreed-upon timeframe.
  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems, moisture management, fertilizer programs, pesticide applications, and equipment operation.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in agronomic management and advanced water management strategies.
  • Monitor soil moisture, interpret agronomic data, and adjust irrigation and maintenance programs.
  • Assist with fertilizer and pesticide programs, including calibration, application, recording, and compliance.
  • Evaluate course conditions daily and suggest maintenance modifications for turf health.
  • Operate and train staff on maintenance equipment and assist with tournament prep.
  • Lead and mentor maintenance staff to foster teamwork and professionalism.
  • Maintain an organized maintenance facility and equipment fleet.
  • Support environmental stewardship initiatives and maintain pesticide records.

This position is ideal for a turf professional who is passionate about producing exceptional playing conditions while preparing for a successful career as a Golf Course Superintendent.Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents, the successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in every aspect of golf course management, including agronomic planning, irrigation and moisture management, fertility and pesticide programs, crew leadership, budgeting, equipment operations, and strategic decision-making.
