Orangeburg Country Club in Orangeburg, SC, seeks an experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to lead maintenance, grow-in, and construction projects under the supervision of the Club's Superintendent.

The candidate will plan budgets, schedule staff, manage chemical applications, monitor turf conditions, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while maintaining a high standard of course conditioning and member service.

Qualifications

• Experience in golf course maintenance and leading teams.
• Knowledge of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
• Knowledge of irrigation, drainage, and repair.
• Current pesticide license or ability to obtain one.
• Bachelor's, associate, or certificate in turf grass management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach the maintenance team to complete tasks on schedule.
• Plan and schedule turf maintenance activities and staffing.
• Oversee chemical/fertilizer applications.
• Inspect turf conditions and advise on corrective actions.
• Train staff and enforce safety policies and proper equipment handling.
• Monitor performance and address issues with staff.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and club procedures.
• Fill in for the Superintendent as needed.

Position Summary:

This hands-on leadership position leads, directs, oversees, assists, trains, and coaches staff. The Assistant golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for and involved in all activities, including course maintenance, grow-in, and construction. Activities would include assisting in budgeting, developing agronomic plans, scheduling, and implementing calibration and application, irrigation problem-solving and repair, and leading projects and enhancements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leading the team, delegating and assigning assignments, providing guidance, training, coaching, and assisting, and ensuring work is completed as expected and in a timely manner.
• Assisting in planning and scheduling all maintenance activities and staff in performing grounds maintenance processes and procedures.
• Assisting in managing and overseeing chemical/fertilizer applications.
• Inspecting turf conditions, advising the Superintendent, recommending corrective action, and implementing/overseeing corrective action.
• Training staff and ensuring all safety policies and procedures are practiced, and turf equipment and tools are safely and efficiently operated, cared for, and properly stored.
• Monitoring and recognizing performance issues, coaching staff, and ensuring performance standards are met.
• Complying with all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
• Communicating and interacting with members, guests, coworkers, management, staff, and others professionally, courteously, and positively representing the Club.
• Fills in for the Superintendent when needed.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):

• Experience and knowledge in golf course maintenance.
• Experience in leading golf course maintenance teams and projects.
• Knowledge of chemical pesticide and fertilizer products and their applications.
• Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
• A current pesticide license or the ability to acquire a license.
• A Bachelor's, associate, or Certificate in turf grass management or related experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
