Job summary

Orangeburg Country Club seeks an Equipment Manager to lead maintenance of the golf course equipment fleet. You will implement preventive maintenance, train staff, and manage inventory while ensuring safe operation and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities include repairing gear, sharpening cutting units, budgeting, and coordinating with the Golf Course Superintendent on large repairs and replacements. This on-site role requires hands-on leadership and a strong mechanical background.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining and repairing turf equipment.
  • Experience with Foley reel and bedknife grinders.
  • Ability to read manuals and follow preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Familiar with budget management.
  • Proficient with MyTurf, Excel, and PM software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and support the equipment preventive maintenance program using MyTurf software.
  • Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair all equipment in the fleet, including parts fabrication.
  • Educate and train grounds staff on the safe and proper use of equipment.
  • Grind and sharpen cutting units to maintain optimal performance.
  • Purchase parts, supplies, and materials as needed, and maintain a stocked, orderly parts inventory.
  • Practice and ensure all health, safety, and environmental regulations are known, understood, and practiced, including proper storage or disposal of hazardous materials, including fuel, grease, and solvents.
  • Advise the Golf Course Superintendent on major equipment failures and replacement needs.
  • Establish and adjust daily, weekly, and monthly repair and maintenance schedules based on equipment requirements and the course maintenance schedule.
  • Establish and maintain accurate records for equipment, liquids, parts, equipment condition, repairs, repair costs, and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop.
  • Perform daily course checks to ensure cut quality and proper equipment operation.
  • Prepare, recommend, and manage the equipment budget by monitoring costs and expenditures, identifying variances, and recommending and implementing corrective action as needed.

Job Summary (Essential Functions):

The Equipment Manager will be responsible for all equipment maintenance and repair, parts and inventory, and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. The Equipment Manager will be a hands‑on leader who guides, trains, coaches, and assists the agronomy staff in the proper and safe use of the equipment fleet. The Equipment Manager will develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule, manage the repair and maintenance of turf equipment and vehicle fleets, and manage equipment inventory. The Equipment Manager will advise the Golf Course Superintendent on major equipment failures and replacement needs and work as an integral member of the grounds team.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use various trade tools and follow their safety guidelines.
  • Familiarity with managing a budget.
  • Ability to utilize computer software systems such as a purchase order system, Excel, Word, and PM Software.
  • Trade school, formal education, or certifications in mechanical, electrical, or related programs, or equivalent experience.
