Job summary

Woodland School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Girls Basketball Coach for Woodland Middle School in Barrington, NJ. The role supports the Head Coach in developing student-athletes on and off the court within a positive, competitive program.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strong communication with middle school students, and a commitment to teamwork and sportsmanship while meeting district and state coaching requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous basketball playing and/or coaching experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and team strategies.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate expectations and boundaries.
• Commitment to developing student-athletes and building a positive school athletic program.
• Must meet all district and state requirements for coaching positions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning, conduct organized, age-appropriate practices focused on basketball fundamentals, skill development, team concepts, conditioning, and game preparation.
• Assist the head coach with supervising the team during practices, games, and other team related activities.
• Assist with creating a positive team culture centered on respect, teamwork, accountability, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist the head coach with teaching appropriate basketball skills, strategies, rules, and game concepts.
• Provide meaningful opportunities for student-athlete behavior, attendance, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, school staff, and the Athletic Department.
• Assist with maintaining appropriate expectations for student-athlete behavior, attendance, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Follow all district, athletic department, league, and NJSIAA requirements and policies.
• Serve as a positive role model and representative of Woodland Middle School and the Barrington School District.

Season: Winter

Schedule: Practices and games are generally held after school (3:30pm-6:00pm)

Location: Woodland Middle School, Barrington, New Jersey

Compensation: Per the applicable district coaching salary schedule.
