Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager / Director of Events & Operations is responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of all aspects of the Reading Royals business operation with a focus on sales and marketing. This position, in conjunction with the General Manager, will act as a key liaison to the Reading Royals hockey team staff and East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) to ensure all regulations and required operational procedures are met. This position is responsible for establishing strategies and providing leadership that will lead to achieving revenue goals and overall success of the team.

This role offers an annual salary of $95,000-$110,000 and is bonus eligible.

This position will remain open until August 15, 2025.

About the Venue

Santander Arena, located in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania, is a versatile venue that serves as the home arena for the Reading Royals, the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. The arena hosts a variety of live events including concerts, Disney on Ice, and other family-friendly events attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.

Responsibilities
  1. Build and manage the hockey operations annual budget, including revenues and expenses, season forecasting, monitoring and approving expenditures, and implementing adjustments as necessary.
  2. Manage and oversee ticket sales and marketing dedicated to the Reading Royals.
  3. Oversee the selection, training, and motivation of all sales and marketing personnel.
  4. Create and implement annual sales plans, including season tickets, group sales, specialty ticket packages, renewals, and new business generation.
  5. Create and implement annual marketing plans, advertising, public relations efforts, and game presentation.
  6. Act as the public face of the team and drive growth in community relations and outreach.
  7. Build a sponsorship asset grid with available sales and marketing assets and oversee activation of various deal elements.
  8. Collaborate with the East Coast Hockey League to ensure compliance with regulations and operating procedures.
  9. Manage merchandise operations in coordination with contractors.
  10. Liaise with the concession director regarding food and beverage packages.
  11. Manage and oversee a dedicated team for the Reading Royals.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, public relations, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry management experience in sales and marketing, preferably with a professional hockey team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of ticket sales program development.
  • Knowledge of marketing, advertising placement, sponsorship development, and public relations.
  • Experience with website maintenance, social networking, and viral marketing.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet software.
  • Familiarity with publishing software such as Microsoft Publisher, Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of media buying and promotions.
  • Flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, and extended workdays as needed.
