Heritage Hotels & Resorts | Albuquerque, New Mexico
Why This Role Matters
You know how to lead a hotel department. Now you are ready to prepare to lead an entire property.
Heritage Hotels & Resorts is seeking an accomplished Assistant General Manager with the experience, judgment, and ambition to advance into a General Manager position. This is an elevated, high-responsibility leadership role for someone who is already operating near the GM level and is ready for broader authority, executive mentorship, and exposure to the strategic side of the business.
Working alongside an experienced General Manager, you will lead daily hotel operations while gaining meaningful experience in financial leadership, revenue strategy, owner relations, business planning, and companywide initiatives. You will also receive direct mentorship and exposure to the Vice President of Operations and President of Heritage Hotels & Resorts.
This is not a traditional second-in-command position. It is an opportunity to take on substantial property leadership, demonstrate GM-level readiness, and prepare for advancement into a General Manager opportunity within Heritage. Advancement will be based on performance, readiness, and organizational need, with the intention of preparing the selected leader to progress as quickly and thoughtfully as possible.
What You’ll Lead
- Direct daily operations across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Facilities, and other property departments.
- Maintain a highly visible leadership presence throughout the hotel while modeling professionalism, accountability, and service excellence.
- Lead, coach, and hold department leaders accountable for guest satisfaction, team engagement, financial performance, and operational execution.
- Partner with the General Manager to execute property strategies, annual business plans, budgets, and performance objectives.
- Review occupancy forecasts, group business, event schedules, and operational needs to ensure appropriate staffing and service readiness.
- Use financial results, guest feedback, labor data, and operational performance metrics to identify risks and drive improvements.
- Participate in revenue strategy, labor planning, expense management, and decisions that affect the hotel’s overall performance.
- Lead cross-functional planning to ensure alignment across departments and a seamless guest experience.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex guest, employee, and operational matters.
- Participate in strategic initiatives that provide exposure to the broader Heritage Hotels & Resorts portfolio.
- Build productive relationships with executive leaders, ownership representatives, department leaders, and key business partners.
- Support the recruitment, development, and succession planning of hotel leaders and team members.
- Ensure compliance with legal, safety, labor, operational, and brand standards.
- Assume full property oversight and decision-making authority in the absence of the General Manager.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
- Progressive leadership experience within a full-service hotel, including responsibility for multiple operational departments.
- Demonstrated readiness to move beyond department-level leadership and make decisions for the entire property.
- Comprehensive knowledge of hotel operations, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Banquets, and Facilities.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, labor management, expense control, and revenue performance.
- The ability to lead department heads, establish accountability, and align cross-functional teams around shared priorities.
- Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate effectively with guests, employees, senior leaders, and ownership representatives.
- Sound judgment and confidence when navigating complex operational, financial, and guest-service matters.
- The ability to analyze business results and translate performance data into meaningful action.
- A visible, hands‑on leadership style balanced with strategic thinking and long‑term planning.
- A genuine interest in advancing into a General Manager role and continuing to grow within Heritage.
Prior experience as an Assistant General Manager, Director of Operations, Rooms Division leader, or comparable senior hotel leader is strongly preferred. Experience in an upscale, luxury, or complex full-service hospitality environment is also strongly preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required based on business needs.
