Job summary

GALLO in Modesto, CA is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to report to the Deputy General Counsel and partner with business leaders across sales, marketing, regulatory, and government affairs in the spirits and malt categories.

You will draft and negotiate commercial agreements, advise on distributor relationships, manage regulatory inquiries, supervise outside counsel, and contribute to acquisitions while promoting a culture of responsibility and compliant growth.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate with 7+ years in advertising, promotions, and regulatory practice in the alcoholic beverage industry.
• Must be a member of the California State Bar.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with business acumen.
• Demonstrated flexibility and success in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead and collaborate.
• Strong time-management and organizational abilities.
• Interpersonal skills to lead and collaborate with internal teams and outside counsel.
• Willingness to travel as needed (up to 5%).
• Must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with advertising agencies, promotional partners, vendors and industry peers.
• Advise on distributor relationships and disputes; manage regulatory inquiries and investigations.
• Coordinate and supervise outside counsel where appropriate; support acquisitions through licensing and compliance review.
• Deliver practical legal training for business personnel and drive a culture of ownership and risk awareness.
