Job summary

State of Oklahoma seeks an Assistant General Counsel to represent the agency, its Board, and personnel in legal proceedings. The role covers employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA, mental health law, investigations, legislation, policies, ethics, and litigation in all state and federal courts along with other tribunals.

The incumbent will be a licensed attorney in Oklahoma with an active Oklahoma Bar Association membership, in a full-time exempt position with compensation

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in Oklahoma.
  • Active Oklahoma Bar Association membership is required.
  • Two years of legal or adjudicative experience for Level II; more for higher levels.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the agency, its Board and personnel in legal proceedings.
  • Handle employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA and mental health law issues.
  • Oversee department investigations, legislation, policies, ethics and litigation in courts and tribunals.

Assistant General Counsel

About the Position: The incumbent will represent the agency, its Board, and agency personnel in legal proceedings and will be responsible for a wide array of legal issues to include employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA, mental health law, department investigations, legislation, policies, ethics, and litigation in all state and federal courts along with other tribunals.

Minimum Qualifications And Experience
Level II
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • A license to practice law in State of Oklahoma
  • An active membership of the Oklahoma Bar Association
  • Two years of legal experience or adjudicative experience
Level III
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school,
  • A license to practice law in State of Oklahoma,
  • An active membership of the Oklahoma Bar Association
  • Five years of legal experience or adjudicative experience.
Level IV
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • A license to practice law in State of Oklahoma
  • An active membership with the Oklahoma Bar Association
  • Seven years of legal experience including two years of litigation, or agency-defined experience in the practice of law e.g. tax, or supervisory experience
