Job summary

Ceredigion County Council is seeking an Assistant Finance Manager to join our Service Accountancy Team within Finance and Procurement. You will oversee and assist with managing the team that provides financial support to various Council Services, ensuring effective budget setting, in-year financial monitoring, and closure of accounts.

We are happy to consider fully or part-qualified accountants (or AAT) with demonstrable experience.

Qualifications

  • Be an experienced accountant with a strong grasp of financial governance and reporting.
  • Ability to identify financial issues and provide actionable recommendations to senior management.
  • Provide financial advice and analysis to support the Council's strategic plans and Medium-Term Financial Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist the Service Accountancy Team delivering financial support to Council Services.
  • Ensure effective budget setting, in-year financial monitoring, and closure of accounts.
  • Complete statutory returns and grant claims and ensure compliance with financial regulations.

Education

Fully or part-qualified accountant / AAT or equivalent experience

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Finance Manager to join our Service Accountancy Team within Finance and Procurement. We are looking to recruit a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated individual on a permanent, full-time basis. This opportunity has arisen following retirement of the previous post-holder, You will oversee and assist with managing the team that provides financial support to various Council Services, including Economy and Regeneration, Legal and Governance, People and Organisation, Policy Performance & Public Protection and Democratic Services, ensuring effective budget setting, in-year financial monitoring, and closure of accounts as well as managing key external funding streams.

You will be expected to:
  • Identify and escalate significant financial issues to senior management with actionable recommendations.
  • Advise services on financial governance and adhere to the Council's financial regulations
  • Provide financial advice and support to Corporate Lead Officers, senior managers, budget managers and colleagues to the highest professional standards and within prescribed timescales
  • Provide professional financial advice and analysis to support the Council's strategic plans and Medium-Term Financial Strategy
  • To complete various statutory returns and grant claims.
  • Be a fully or part-qualified accountant, be AAT qualified or have equivalent demonstrable experience.
