Job summary

The YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase is seeking an Assistant Facility Engineer to support day-to-day facility operations, preventive maintenance programs, and housekeeping services at our Bethesda location. You’ll work with the Facility Engineer and branch leadership to keep facilities clean, safe, efficient, and member-ready.

You’ll join a mission-driven team that values hands-on problem solving, reliability, and timely responses to maintenance needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of facilities management or related experience.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
• Pool Operator Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs in a fast-paced environment.
• Emergency call-out availability.

Responsibilities

• Support housekeeping and maintenance teams to uphold facility standards.
• Assist with preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Respond to maintenance requests and work orders promptly.
• Assist inspections to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Troubleshoot facility systems and monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry.
• Coordinate vendors and service providers as needed.
• Support events and facility upgrades with branch leadership.
• Maintain clean, safe spaces for members and staff.
• Train and support maintenance staff as needed.
• Respond to emergencies as required.
