This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Facility Director, the Assistant Facility Manager assists in supervising staff, maintenance, housekeeping, and repairs of all buildings, grounds, and equipment, as well as formulating annual and project budgets. The role requires the ability to work independently on long-term projects with basic skills in operating heavy equipment, plumbing, electrical work, landscaping, carpentry, mechanical repairs, and masonry.
Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma
- Five or more years of related experience preferred, with basic skills in plumbing, electrical, landscaping, carpentry, mechanical, and masonry
- 1-3 years experience in supervision and fiscal management
- Understanding of NJ Department of Health Standards
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment
- Knowledge of general maintenance, repairs, housekeeping, groundskeeping, and equipment
- Basic understanding of equipment upkeep and care
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
Essential Functions
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, representing the YMCA positively and encouraging others through positivity
- Ensure facilities and grounds are safe, attractive, and clean, including grounds, vehicles, and equipment. Perform seasonal lawn care and snow removal as needed
- Maintain buildings used in camp, such as cabins, tents, dining halls, lodges, shelters, program buildings, shower houses, and restrooms, ensuring they are in good repair, clean, safe, and sanitary
- Operate and maintain related motorized and non-motorized equipment
- Record and report all repairs needed; perform repairs as directed
- Assist in planning and implementing building renovations and construction projects
- Be on-call overnight, weekends, and during vacations when groups are using the facilities
- Ensure compliance with NJ Department of Health Standards, NJ Department of Environmental Protection, OSHA, local health departments, and ACA standards
- Identify and maintain property lines, post no trespassing signs, and manage property maintenance including tree removal, erosion control, roads, fences, and waste water systems
- Prepare preventive maintenance schedules and keep repair records for insurance purposes
- Ensure all electrical, plumbing, roofing, and other repairs are completed properly
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and tools, manage shipments and storage
- Perform other duties as assigned
