Job summary

Marnell Masonry is seeking an Assistant Estimator to support the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive bids. You will perform quantity takeoffs, manage plans, obtain pricing from vendors, and help prepare bid documents under the guidance of senior estimators and the Chief Estimator.

You will learn Marnell Masonry’s estimating standards, builder requirements, and project delivery expectations while developing essential skills in plan management and collaboration with project teams

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil plans and drawings.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and estimating tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Estimators in bidding, pricing, and submitting on time.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and material calculations from plans.
  • Scan and organize plans and bid documents.
  • Coordinate with vendors/subcontractors for pricing and bids.
  • Assist in preparing shop drawings and project manuals.
  • Learn estimating standards and builder requirements.
  • Support Project Engineer in obtaining permits.
  • Maintain bid records and pricing correspondence.
  • Take on additional tasks as directed by leadership.

Job description

The Assistant Estimator supports the Estimating team in winning profitable work by preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive masonry bid proposals. Working under the direction of the Estimators and Chief Estimator, this role assists with quantity takeoffs, plan management, vendor and subcontractor pricing, and bid preparation, while learning Marnell Masonry’s estimating standards, builder requirements, and project delivery expectations.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Estimators in bidding and winning work, ensuring bids are accurate, competitive, and submitted on time.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and material calculations from architectural, structural, and civil plans.
  • Scan, manage, and organize paper and electronic plans and bid documents.
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and sub bids.
  • Assist in preparing shop drawings and project manuals.
  • Learn and apply builders’ philosophies, hierarchy, bid formats, and presentation requirements.
  • Support the Project Engineer in obtaining necessary permits.
  • Maintain organized records of bids, pricing, and correspondence.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Chief Estimator or Project Manager.
MUST HAVE — REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and engineering documents (architectural, structural, civil, and shop drawings).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately under pressure and deadlines.
  • A positive, likeable personality with the ability to build rapport with customers and vendors.
  • Pass the Company’s Driver Approval Process.
  • Pass mandatory pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to read and write in English and/or Spanish at a level sufficient to follow safety instructions, complete required documentation accurately, and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
NICE TO HAVE — PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field of study.
  • Prior estimating, construction, or masonry industry experience.
  • Familiarity with construction estimating and takeoff software.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
