Qualifications

Job description

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring to be based out of our Canton, OH / Jackson, MI / Indianapolis, IN office, within our Power & Energy Business Unit. This position is mostly remote and will require travel to various project sites in the Upper Midwestern and Mid-Atlantic Regions. Applicants should enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Ohio, with opportunities in Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing assignments with minimal supervision, including but not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Perform field monitoring of erosion and sediment (E&S) controls on various construction projects.
  2. Review specifications, permits, and permit conditions, as well as E&S control and stormwater plans.
  3. Prepare and review monitoring reports based on field observations.
  4. Assist in preparing environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests.
  5. Adhere to Health and Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and clients.
  6. Maintain QA/QC standards and follow quality procedures.
Qualifications

Required:

  1. Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability.
  2. Proficiency with GPS devices for data collection.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and related applications.
  4. Valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
  5. Flexibility and willingness to travel regionally (2-5 hours round trip, 3-5 days/week).

Preferred:

  1. Associates degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  2. 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
  3. Experience with Environmental Due Diligence, NPDES regulations, and BMP designs.
  4. Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS (ArcGIS).
  5. Certifications such as QEI, Responsible Person for Erosion and Sediment Control, or CESSWI.
Physical Demands and Other Information:
  • Ability to walk over unimproved terrain, lift up to 50 pounds, and observe potential hazards.
  • Successful candidates will be required to pass a drug screening.
Additional Characteristics:
  • Basic skills development, record keeping, topographic and aerial photo reading, and technical literature familiarity.
  • Responsible for personal task management and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, teamwork, and leadership principles.
