Reporting to the Director of Legal Counsel, the role involves legal research, drafting opinions, policy guidance, and oversight of relevant litigation and administrative actions. It also includes advising on educator licensure and labor law, with collaboration across agency teams.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Illinois.
• At least two years of experience working as a licensed attorney in the field of Education Law or a related legal field.
• Knowledge of Education Law.

Responsibilities

• Researches applicable law, regulations and non-regulatory guidance and drafts legal opinions, legislation, administrative rules, guidance, and other documents.
• Provides legal and program guidance to staff in developing policy and strategic decision-making.
• Oversees relevant litigation and administrative proceedings.
• Participates in Agency and external committees and task forces.
• Advises and counsels on educator licensure matters and labor law.
• Provides technical assistance to school administrators and other constituents as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
