Job summary

The Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), seeks an Assistant Director for the Office of Blindness and Vision Services to lead the statewide Independent Living Older Blind program in Baltimore, MD. Hybrid work options may be available.

Responsibilities include establishing performance goals, managing HR for ILOB staff, and ensuring high-quality services for individuals with significant disabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Five (5) years of professional specialized experience in rehabilitation counseling or vocational evaluation services for clients with disabilities or teaching services to clients with blindness/low vision.
• Two (2) years of the required experience must have included direct supervision of other professional employees specializing in rehabilitation services for clients with disabilities.
• A Master’s Degree or 36 credit hours may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates the statewide Independent Living Older Blind (ILOB) Program and serves as Assistant Director for OBVS.
• Establishes performance goals for Independent Living Specialists statewide and manages human resources to ensure high-quality ILOB services.
• Manages the ILOB Case Services Funds budget (~$1 million) with compliance to federal laws and reporting.
• Oversees staff training, Services for the Blind operations, program evaluation, consumer inquiries, Deafblind Services, special projects, and vendor approvals.
