Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Nursing is a key member of the MedStar Health Nursing leadership team. Supports and collaborates with the Director of Nursing to oversee the nursing and patient care delivery within a specific unit or department. Ensures the provision of holistic, culturally competent, person-centered, quality, safe, and cost-effective evidence-based nursing care for patients and families. Collaborates within the organization's shared decision-making framework and manages patient transitions across care continuum to promote optimal health outcomes. Assumes administrative and leadership responsibilities on a 24/7 basis for the assigned unit/department, fostering a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Demonstrates leadership aligned with MedStar's mission, vision, and values.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Develops unit goals, policies, and procedures ensuring compliance with hospital standards and regulations.
2. Builds effective interdisciplinary relationships to facilitate efficient and high-quality patient care.
3. Sets performance standards, evaluates staff, and manages personnel actions.
4. Conducts performance reviews and supports staff development and ongoing education.
5. Maintains communication during the absence of the Director of Nursing to coordinate operations.
6. Participates in budgeting and resource management to support organizational and patient care standards.
7. Implements strategies to optimize patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.
8. Supports recruitment, onboarding, and competency development for staff.
9. Engages in quality improvement initiatives and compliance with safety standards.
10. Participates in hospital committees, community outreach, and professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's preferred.

Experience: 3-4 years of progressive nursing experience; leadership experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications: Active RN licensure in District of Columbia, CPR certification, and specialty certifications as applicable.

Skills & Abilities

Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills; proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.

Additional Details

Position salary range: $100,588 - $190,340.
