Job summary

Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation is seeking a highly trained and motivated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) with a Take Charge mindset and strong leadership qualities. The role focuses on guiding the nursing department of a Long Term Care Facility with clinical excellence and compassionate care.

The ADON will supervise RN staff, liaise with the Director of Nursing Services, and ensure policy implementation and regulatory compliance while supporting recruitment and staff development.

Qualifications

• Must possess valid unencumbered RN State License.
• Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Minimum three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.
• Experience in supervision and principles, practice of teaching, etc.
• Strong communication skills with tactful interaction with personnel, residents, family, and public.
• Knowledge of nursing/medical practices, regulations, and guidelines for nursing care facilities.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises Unit Managers, RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses.
• Liaises between Director of Nursing Services and ward staff.
• Resource person in resident care.
• Interprets and ensures implementation of nursing policies.
• Assists in recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
• In the absence of the Director, assumes responsibilities.
• Documents disciplinary concerns for nursing staff.
• Reports significant clinical developments to physician and family.
• Ensures Medicare guidelines are met.

Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directs and supervises Unit Managers, RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses RN/LPN in effectively accomplishing their duties.
• Acts as liaison between Director of Nursing Services and Unit Managers/RN Supervisors/Charge Nurses RN/LPN
• Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.
• Assists in the interpretation of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.
• Assists in recruitment and selection of nursing services employees.
• Assumes all responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Services in his/her absence.
• Responsible for documenting disciplinary concerns for RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses RN/LPN.
• Verifies that significant clinical developments are reported to the resident's physician and family.
• Ensures Medicare guidelines are met.

Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Requirements:

• Must possess valid unencumbered, RN State License. Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Minimum three (3) years of clinical nursing experience within a hospital, nursing care center or other related healthcare setting.
• Must have experience in supervision and principles, practice of teaching, etc.
• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
• Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
• Associate degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related field.
• Has completed specialized training in infection prevention and control.
• Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
