Job summary

Preferred Care Health Centers is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) in Maryland. This in-person role supports the Director of Nursing in daily operations, staff development and ensuring compassionate, high-quality resident care.

The ADON will oversee staffing, participate in QAPI activities, and help implement regulatory standards while maintaining a collaborative culture among staff, residents, and families.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
• Nurse license: unrestricted RN license.
• Infection Control certification from the CDC.
• Assists in planning, developing, organizing, implementing and directing daily Nursing Services operations.
• Participates in QAPI or facility assessment activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing and directing day-to-day operations.
• Assist in evaluating nursing staff performance and enforcing policies.
• Ensure adequate staff coverage and nursing supervision on units.
• Oversee nursing schedules to meet resident needs, regulatory and budget standards.
• Develop in-service education to keep staff competent in current knowledge.

The Assistant Director of Nursing plays a central role in setting that standard. With a focus on clinical integrity, team development, and consistent communication, this role ensures that care is not only compassionate but reliable—building trust among staff, residents, and families alike.

Registered Nurse - Assistant Director of Nursing Requirements & Responsibilities:

• A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Infection Control certification from the CDC
• Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current state and federal laws and regulations.
• Assists in evaluating work performance of all nursing personnel and implements discipline according to operational policies.
• Participates in QAPI or facility assessment activities as needed, such as carrying out duties assigned as part of a performance improvement committee.
• Facilitates, serves, attends or participates in various committees of the facility as appointed.
• Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on the units, general cleanliness, and maintaining optimal resident functions.
• Assists with oversight of nursing schedules to ensure resident needs, regulatory and budget standards are met.
• Conducts observations of nursing care and supervises the development of in-service education to ensure nursing staff is competent in current knowledge and skills.
