EOE POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Human Resources will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Director of Human Resources with the oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department. This position will administer established organizational HR policies, procedures, and practices and regularly review them to ensure continued compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational standards, providing recommendations to the Director as appropriate. The Assistant Director will oversee HR data collection, dissemination, integrity, and analysis; identify trends and provide data-driven insights to support informed decision-making. The position will also ensure that HRIS processes and business practices align with the goals and operational needs of the organization and Human Resources Department. Additionally, the Assistant Director will oversee, and support training initiatives developed for staff and department supervisors, supervise less senior HR professionals as needed, and serve as the acting head of the Human Resources Department in the HR Director's absence.

Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Supervision of human resources documents related to mandatory and non-mandatory training. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  • Provide assistance, as needed, to the Director of Employee Relations and Compliance, with employee termination or investigations in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist with all benefits programs, including conducting analyses and act as a point of contact in the HR Director's absence with providers including group health, workers' compensation, unemployment and retirement plans.
  • Support the ongoing administration of HR services and functions as directed or assigned, including recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, affirmative action/EEO compliance, workers' compensation, leaves of absence, and job classification, while ensuring alignment with quality management principles and the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Develop, prepare, and analyze ongoing HR reports related to employee personnel information and organizational data, including benefits, staffing levels and deployment, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, I-9 compliance, affirmative action/EEO, compensation, promotions, and other HR-related metrics.
  • Effectively utilize the HRIS to obtain, maintain, monitor, and analyze relevant data and information, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting to support HR operations and organizational decision-making.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal, state and local laws/regulations affecting human resource management.
  • Identify trends that could affect organizational objectives and/or operational resources.
  • Interpret appropriate laws and policies and advise management, employees and retirees accordingly.
  • Oversee and assist with HR day-to-day activities including special projects with a focus on evaluating appropriateness of new or ongoing projects, available resources, reducing duplication and ensuring equal team contributions.
  • Establish procedures for updating and archiving files, and related material.
  • Provide daily guidance and management to less-senior HR staff.
  • Act as liaison with appropriate departments/contacts regarding ensuring departmental practices are consistent with the goals of UAU.
  • Review/audit HR compliance practices with federal, state and local guidelines including Form I-9, FLSA, document retention/destruction regulations/guidelines, and other relevant or critical issues.
  • Identify skill gaps of HR staff and develop/recommend/coordinate appropriate training.
  • Identify training needs related to HR procedures, policies, and processes for staff and managers; make appropriate recommendations to the Director of Human Resources and oversee implementation of approved training initiatives as needed.
  • Attend trainings as needed and keep up to date with current HR trends and best practices.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, preferred or in lieu 5 years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in a specialized HR area, required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supervising professional HR staff.
  • 5 plus years, of experience and knowledge of Human Resources Information Software, such as; ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Kronos etc..
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service to both internal and external employees and candidates.
  • Ability to provide leadership to a group comprised of professionals and support staff.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate complex issues along with evidence of ability to problem- solve.
  • Ability to work closely with groups toward consensus.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulatory requirements pertaining to all aspects of the workforce and welfare and benefits, regulations and reporting procedures.
  • Proven expertise as an HR and benefits administrator and knowledge of retirement planning.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and multiple-project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare documents and reports.
  • Must be computer literate in Windows-based applications including spreadsheets (Excel).
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively conduct and complete work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed.

Which is reimbursed in accordance with UAU's fiscal policies and procedures. Also requires a reliable mode of transportation. May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasionally working both indoors and outdoors as directed based on operational needs and appropriate and safe weather conditions. The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet or more of the observer).
