PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

The Assistant Director of Engineeringis responsible for overseeing the operation and life safety of the building. This position supervises the Engineering department staff and ensures the property is in optimum condition for our guests and colleagues.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
  • Master the life safety systems and emergency response procedures.
  • On-call support to respond to off-hours emergencies.
  • Responsible for overseeing Engineering in the absence of the Director of Facilities.
  • Understanding of all building systems and life-safety systems to insure minimum downtime, expense, and discomfort to our guests and colleagues. Conduct daily inspections of property and plant.
  • Attend necessary meetings and functions to show support and provide input towards the success of the hotel.
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs for plant equipment, guest rooms, and public areas.
  • Lead all daily line-ups. Develop and delegate daily work plan for preventive and unscheduled maintenance to all Engineering staff; hold staff accountable for timely completion of work tickets.
  • Review daily log books and manage all day-to-day activities ensuring all preventive and unscheduled maintenance is completed in a timely manner with attention to detail.
  • Monitor plant systems via Building Management System. Make adjustments as needed and physically check on all abnormalities.
  • Operate high pressure steam boiler per state law requirements and report all issues to EIC (Engineer in charge). Fill out state log books.
  • Review invoices and process for timely payments.
  • Review, understand and adhere to budget plans.
  • Track, review, and report utility consumption.
  • Generate and post department schedule in timely manner and ensure proper coverage.
  • Direct, coordinate, and oversee outside sub-contractors as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of hotel features/services, hours of operation, daily house count and expected arrivals/departures, etc. to ensure work orders are scheduled around critical times; assist in monthly department meetings.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of new staff members.
  • Follow all safety procedures including utilization of proper personal protective equipment and adherence to all Connect sustainability procedures.
  • Follow all lock out tag out procedures.
  • Ensure employees maintain safe conditions and procedures in work areas and other associated areas; ensure each employee successfully completes the Training Certification Process and reviews all departmental safety information
  • Hands‑on assistance to Engineers and departments as needed.
  • Set standards for the department in image, appearance and grooming; properly represent the company to outside vendors/organizations.
  • Additional duties not mentioned above may also be requested by supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Stand for long periods, for length of shift.
  • Stand, sit, reach, grasp, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, push/pull.
  • Ability to properly operate hand and power tools.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to use computers including but not limited to emails, spreadsheets, and building management systems
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, motor driven fans, and pumps.
  • Working knowledge of the use of hand and power tools used in operating, maintaining and repairing boiler room equipment, plant systems, and guest room appliances.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills required.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE /LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES / REQUIRED:
  • Ability to obtain 2 nd Class Steam Fireman License or higher issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety.
  • Minimum 2 years of hotel facility management experience required.
SALARY RANGE:
  • $105,000 - $115,000 annually
