Job summary

The Langham, Boston is seeking a skilled facilities engineer to support luxury hotel operations. The role covers preventive maintenance for HVAC systems, routine and emergency issue resolution, and continuous monitoring of plant equipment to ensure guest comfort and safety.

You will work primarily on PM shifts, including two overnight shifts on Fridays and Saturdays, collaborating with the engineering team to uphold Langham standards and safe operating practices while keeping mechanical spaces

Qualifications

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform physical activities including walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and pushing/pulling.
• Proficient in operating hand and power tools.
• Strong written and verbal English communication; basic computer skills.
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems, pumps, hand and power tools, and general equipment maintenance and repair; basic electrical and plumbing skills preferred.
• Massachusetts HVAC license required.
• Two years of HVAC or facility maintenance experience.
• Hotel experience preferred; PM shifts including two overnight shifts on Friday and Saturday shifts.

Responsibilities

• Complete and record scheduled rounds for all building equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment and deficiencies in guest rooms.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls, determine course of action, and resolve.
• Monitor plant systems continuously via Building Management System; adjust as needed.
• Operate boiler per state law requirements; report issues to EIC and maintain state log books.
• Remain on-duty until properly relieved by next shift engineer; generate pass-on reports.
• Monitor and respond to fire protection system alarms and troubles.
• Perform boiler water chemistry tests.
• Additional shift work as assigned.
• Coordinate with manager and subcontractors to resolve issues by phone.
• Knowledge of fire emergency procedures and duties of assisting personnel.
• Follow all safety procedures including lock out tag out; maintain tools in safe condition.
• Assist other engineers and departments as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete and record scheduled rounds for all building equipment. Make adjustments and repairs as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment as well as deficiencies in guest rooms.
• Respond to all routine and emergency calls, determine course of action, and resolve.
• Monitor plant systems continuously via Building Management System on the computer. Make adjustments as needed and physically check all abnormalities.
• Operate high pressure steam boiler per state law requirements and report all issues to EIC (engineer in charge). Fill out state log books.
• Remain on-duty until properly relieved by next shift engineer.
• Generate a pass-on report e-mail of all shift work performed and any abnormal conditions experienced during the shift, along with plant status.
• Monitor and respond to all fire protection system alarms and troubles
• Perform boiler water chemistry tests.
• Additional shift work as assigned.
• Contact manager and sub-contractors to coordinate work and issues with phone.
• Knowledge of fire emergency procedures and duties of all assisting personnel.
• Follow all safety procedures including utilization of proper personal protective equipment and adherence to all sustainability procedures.
• Follow all lock out tag out procedures.
• Perform preventive maintenance on auxiliary equipment and other tasks as assigned.
• Maintain all mechanical spaces in a clean, safe, and professional manner.
• Assist in the on-boarding of incoming personnel.
• Maintain all tools in a safe condition and report all deficiencies.
• Assist other engineers and departments as needed.
• Additional duties not mentioned above may also be requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Ability to lift/carry up to 75 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform physical activities including walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and pushing/pulling.
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills and basic computer proficiency, including email, spreadsheets, and building management systems.
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems, fans, pumps, hand and power tools, and general equipment maintenance and repair; basic electrical and plumbing skills preferred.
• Must maintain all required licenses in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws.
• Two years of HVAC or other facility maintenance experience desired.
• Hotel experience preferred.
• Must be available to work primarily PM shifts, including two overnight shifts on Friday and Saturday shifts during the week.

Pay Range:

$36.34 - $36.64 per hour
