Position Title: Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing - Digital Content

Reports To: Executive Director of Communications and Marketing

General Summary:

The Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing – Digital Content is responsiblefor creating and managing digital content that supports Glen Oaks Community College’senrollment goals, strategic priorities, and community engagement efforts. The positionfocuses primarily on social media strategy, storytelling, content creation, and audienceengagement, while also supporting the college website as an information, recruitment,and marketing platform.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing, thisposition plans, creates, publishes, and evaluates content across digital platformsand works collaboratively with departments throughout the college to identify andtell Glen Oaks stories.

The position is expected to devote approximately 60% of its time to social media anddigital content creation and 40% to website content and management. Regular on-campuspresence is required, with occasional evening and weekend work for event coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and manage the college’s social media presence, including developing a strategiccontent calendar aligned with enrollment, academic programs, student experiences,workforce development, events, and institutional priorities.
  • Create, write, edit, schedule, and publish engaging digital content, including photography,video, graphics, short-form video, and written stories for social media and otherdigital platforms.
  • Identify and develop stories from across the college, including students, employees,academic programs, athletics, events, alumni, workforce development, and communitypartnerships.
  • Monitor social media channels, engage with audiences, coordinate responses when appropriate,and help manage the college’s online reputation.
  • Monitor social media trends, platform changes, audience behavior, and performancedata and recommend opportunities to improve content and engagement.
  • Manage and update assigned website content, ensuring information is accurate, clear,accessible, current, and consistent with college brand standards.
  • Write and edit website content and create or optimize webpages and landing pages supportingacademic programs, student services, recruitment, events, and marketing campaigns.
  • Apply SEO, digital accessibility, and user experience best practices when creatingand maintaining website content.
  • Review website content regularly to identify outdated information, broken links, accessibilityconcerns, and opportunities to improve the user experience.
  • Collaborate with departments across the college to gather information, develop content,and support institutional and marketing campaigns.
  • Use social media and website analytics to evaluate performance and recommend contentand strategy improvements.
  • Use AI and other digital tools to support content development, creative production,research, and workflow efficiency while following college standards and responsible-usepractices.
  • Maintain the college’s brand, voice, visual identity, and editorial standards acrossassigned digital platforms.
  • Support college events and initiatives through digital promotion and coverage, includingoccasional evening and weekend assignments.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in marketing, communications, publicrelations, journalism, digital media, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in social media management, digitalcontent creation, marketing communications, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media accounts and planning,creating, publishing, and evaluating digital content.
  • Experience creating written, photo, video, graphic, and/or multimedia content fordigital platforms.
  • Experience creating or maintaining website content using a content management system.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, interpersonal communication, and organizationalskills.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable content creation tools.
  • Working knowledge of social media and website analytics, SEO, digital accessibility,and user experience principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, work collaboratively across departments,and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work regularly on campus and provide occasional evening or weekend eventand social media coverage.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience in social media, digital content,website content management, or marketing communications.
  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or another mission-driven organization.
  • . Experience developing digital content or campaigns that support recruitment, enrollment,event attendance, lead generation, or other measurable goals.
  • Experience with Modern Campus CMS or a comparable content management system.
  • Knowledge of ADA/WCAG digital accessibility standards.
  • Experience using AI-assisted content creation, editing, research, or workflow tools.
  • Experience creating short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram Reels,Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, or similar channels.
