Virginia Tech's College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni and Donor Relations in Blacksburg. You will support engagement and stewardship strategies, assist with event logistics, and serve as the lead on select programs, strengthening bonds with alumni, donors, students, and friends of the college.

You will collaborate with University Advancement and CLAHS Communications to implement a stewardship plan and advance institutional goals.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director of Alumni and Donor Relations plays a key role in advancing the engagement and stewardship strategies for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. This position will assist with event logistics, planning, and execution, and will be the program lead on some of the events. This position will also work with the rest of the CLAHS Advancement team on the development and implementation of a stewardship action plan. The duties of this position related to events and stewardship are strategically designed to enhance engagement, cultivate philanthropic relationships, and foster a strong sense of community among alumni, students, and friends of the college.

The Assistant Director collaborates with University Advancement, the CLAHS Communications and Marketing team, and other university units to align engagement and stewardship activities with institutional goals.

This position requires some evening and weekend work as well as occasional travel.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent relevant experience will be considered
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, and executing special events or engagement programs
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented team environment
  • Experience using a variety of software tools, including the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and to travel to engagement events if necessary
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience interacting with or providing programming for alumni and/or donors, specifically in a higher education setting
  • Familiarity with university advancement operations, donor relations, event management, and alumni engagement strategies
  • Demonstrated experience in using a constituent database, such as Blackbaud, or a similar system
  • Experience working with vendors, contracts, and event budgets
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders in higher education
