Job summary

Virginia Tech's Myers‑Lawson School of Construction seeks an Outreach and Events Coordinator to lead planning, logistics, and execution of events serving students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners.

Reporting to the Associate Director, the role also manages promotional inventory, supports site visits and camps, and may require some evening or weekend work to ensure successful engagement while upholding VT brand standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, hospitality, event management, or related field (or a bachelor’s with commensurate experience).

Job Description

The Outreach and Events Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for the planning, logistics, and execution of events and engagement activities serving students, faculty, alumni, industry partners, and other external constituents for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC). This position is responsible for planning and executing high-quality, strategically aligned events that advance the school’s outreach and engagement objectives, strengthen stakeholder connections, and enhance brand visibility.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Outreach and Industry Engagement, this position is an integral member of the school's Outreach Team
In addition to coordinating events, the Outreach and Events Coordinator manages the school's promotional inventory and branded merchandise in collaboration with the Outreach team and in accordance with MLSoC and VT brand standards. This position also provides logistical support for faculty-led site visits, field trips, and summer camps, and helps ensure the school offers a full slate of meaningful engagement opportunities that advance strategic goals and strengthen relationships with students, faculty, alumni, friends of the school, and industry. This role requires working occasionally in the evenings or on weekends in support of events.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, hospitality, event management, or related field or a bachelor’s degree with commiserate experience.
• Experience managing events and/or working with alumni/external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating venues, lodging, transportation, and catering logistics for multiple events annually.
• Experience in higher education, advancement, or nonprofit event planning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience translating and aligning strategy into programs and events.
• Demonstrated experience in developing post-event reports measuring attendance, engagement, satisfaction, and ROI.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex, high-visibility events.
• Experience using CRM Systems (e.g. AIMS, Salesforce, etc.)
