The Assistant Director of Admission, Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in promoting access and enrollment for students of all backgrounds, including first-generation, rural, and low-income students. This role combines traditional admission responsibilities with a strong emphasis on developing and implementing strategic outreach initiatives. Key responsibilities include executing specialized recruitment strategies, collaborating with admission colleagues, managing a recruitment territory, fostering relationships with community-based organizations, evaluating candidates for admission, and coordinating targeted recruitment events. The specialist serves as a recruitment and enrollment ambassador to schools and communities, representing DePauw's commitment to enrolling a broadly diverse, bright, and talented class of students.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Support prospective and incoming students and their families in their college search and application process.

  • In consultation with Enrollment Management leaders, develop short- and long-term recruiting strategies that will increase the reach and reputation of DePauw and enhance the University's success in enrolling students from all backgrounds around the country.

  • Manage the assigned recruitment territory by closely monitoring application numbers, reviewing application documents, recommending admission decisions and conducting correspondence/communication.

  • Gather, track, and analyze data with the help of the admission Client Relationship Management System (Slate) and enrollment systems specialists.

  • Produce reports on key indicators to be agreed upon with the Assistant Vice President for Admission to communicate weekly recruitment progress in the context of future goals and past performance.

  • Evaluate applications for admission, making recommendations for admission and scholarships based on established criteria. Communicate with students and families about those decisions according to university goals and policies.

  • Cultivate relationships with high school counselors, teachers, administrators, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders who influence college-bound students.

  • Guide prospective students and families about financial aid opportunities and policies, respecting each student's situation with support and empathy.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community outreach plan to expand DePauw’s reach and visibility within target communities and geographic territories.

  • With support from enrollment management leadership, coordinate professional development and dialogue for enrollment teammates on creating equitable admission practices and policies with the goal of fostering an inclusive community for prospective and incoming students.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop specialized outreach programs and events and assist with other admission-related events (both in-person and virtual).

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Admission, which support recruitment efforts and enrollment goals.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum of two years in university admission and recruitment or additional related experience. Demonstrated experience with low income, first-generation, and diverse student populations. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required. Title is commensurate with experience and education.

Communication/Language:

Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of relevant constituencies or employees of an organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills

Familiarity and facility with database management, statistical programs, and web-based applications.

Certificates & Licenses

Must possess a valid United States driver's license and good driving record.
