Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a Purchasing Manager to coordinate purchasing, receiving and issuance of supplies, while overseeing operations in a hospital setting. The role requires supervisory leadership and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years supervisory experience within a hospital, medical center or health care facility; 2+ years in related management of purchasing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Purchasing‑Supply in coordinating purchasing, receiving, and issuance of supplies.
  • Relieve the Director in their absence.
  • Supervise storage and control of supplies after acceptance.
  • Supervise issuance of supplies in compliance with authorization and documentation procedures.
  • Analyze consumption of storeroom supplies and code by cost center or program.
  • Maintain storeroom inventory and reconcile inventory to general ledger controls.
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and resolve discrepancies.
  • Negotiate and place routine purchase orders.
  • Prepare and consolidate purchase requisitions.
  • Price purchase requests; obtain data from catalogues or by telephone or interview with vendors; settle questions within procedures established by the Director.
  • Follow up and expedite overdue orders.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, or a related field, and at least three (3) years of experience in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • Two (2) years of that experience must have been in a supervisory capacity within a hospital, medical center or health care facility, and two (2) additional years in a related management of purchasing capacity.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience on a year‑for‑year basis is acceptable, provided all candidates have at least a high‑school diploma or educational equivalent.
Department Preferences
  • Knowledge of hospital organization, administration and applicable regulations, with emphasis on supply chain management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and progressive career growth.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leaders within a health system.
  • Experience in operational improvement in supply chain, including programs such as LUM/JIT, inventory control systems and theory.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience in healthcare operations, warehouse inventory, PAR management or supply chain.
  • ERP functions and maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, demand planning, and market/supplier research and analysis.
  • Prior experience in healthcare, supply chain or materials management.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong planning, critical thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills at all organization levels.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in supply chain management within a healthcare environment.
