Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond seeks an Assistant Director for Leadership and Engagement to foster an intentional residential community for nearly 6,000 on-campus students.

You will oversee leadership programs, RAM Camp, and student organizations, report to the Director of Residential Initiatives, and guide a full-time coordinator. Hybrid work and generous benefits are offered, with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.
• Four or more years professional experience in residence life/housing or student affairs.
• Experience designing, implementing, and assessing leadership development programs and large-scale student engagement initiatives.
• Experience with student leadership advising.
• Supervision experience of staff or paraprofessionals.
• Ability to build teams and collaborate with campus partners.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
• Budget management experience and administrative fiscal responsibility.
• Proficiency with web apps, online systems, databases, and Google Workspace.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Oversee leadership development programs and RAM Camp for first-year residents.
• Advise the Residence Hall Association and NRHH; foster community and leadership growth.
• Plan, implement, and support large-scale programs; manage Residential Leadership Center.
• Supervise a full-time coordinator and collaborate with campus partners.
