Job summary

American University in Washington, DC seeks an Assistant Director of Financial Aid Communication & Service to lead daily service delivery in the Office of Financial Aid and manage the Yellow Ribbon Program.

You will supervise frontline staff, coordinate with campus partners, advise students and families on federal, state, and institutional aid, and ensure compliant, student-centered service across channels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; 3–5 years of relevant experience.
• Financial aid administration and counseling experience required.
• Experience with automated systems and strong written and verbal communication skills preferred.
• Exempt, full-time position in hybrid on-site environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day service delivery operations of the Office of Financial Aid.
• Oversee Yellow Ribbon Program coordination and awards processing.
• Counsel students and families on federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
• Train staff and reconcile student records; ensure policy compliance.
