Job summary

The City of Melissa is seeking an Assistant Director of Development Services to plan, organize, and direct the building inspection division. Under the general direction of the Director, you will administer construction codes, oversee plan review, and supervise inspection staff to ensure safe, compliant development within the community.

You will coordinate with Engineering, Planning, Fire, and Public Works, respond to inquiries, interpret codes, and prepare policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction or engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 5–7 years municipal or commercial building inspection or code experience.
• 2–3 years supervisory experience.
• ICC Building Official Certification or ability to obtain within 18 months.
• Texas State Licensed Plumbing Inspector.
• ICC Plans Examiner certification.
• Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Building Official and enforce ICC codes with local amendments.
• Oversee permitting, inspections, code interpretation, and development processes.
• Supervise permit technicians and third‑party plan review consultants.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Planning, Fire, and Public Works for reviews.
• Develop policies and procedures; train staff; manage daily operations.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of inspection and permitting activity.
• Assist with budgeting and ensure staff certifications and safety standards.
