Job summary

SEPTA, based in Philadelphia, seeks an Assistant Director Control Center Information to lead the team responsible for real-time service info, rider announcements, and public alerts across platforms. This role coordinates with multiple departments to ensure accurate, timely communications during disruptions and normal operations.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years in transportation or comms, plus supervisory experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of transportation or communications experience.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Knowledge of transportation operations.
• Familiarity with transit technology and labor agreements.
• Able to work outside normal duty hours including weekends and holidays.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Responsible for managing the daily activities of the Control Center Information Team, made up of Control Center Information Managers and Regional Rail Announcers. The Control Center Information team is responsible for gathering information about service disruptions in real time, making announcements to riders on Regional Rail and Metro platforms, and publishing alerts and other information to the SEPTA website, SEPTA and third-party apps, and digital signage. In addition, this team coordinates with other teams within the Authority including Media Relations and Customer Service.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages the daily activities of Control Center Information Managers.
• Manages the daily activities of Regional Rail Announcers.
• Documents standard operating procedures for Rail Announcers and Control Center Information Managers.
• Works on internal process improvements to improve the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of customer-facing information.
• Works collaboratively with other departments including but not limited to IT, Communications, and Signals on everyday system administration, as well as technology improvements to improve the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of customer facing information. Relevant systems include but are not limited to AVPA, ATDS, Alert Management Tool, Hiplinks/other internal reporting systems, Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV), and X (Twitter).
• Works closely with the Customer Service Department to answer customer questions in real time, and to ensure all customer feedback related to Control Center communications are investigated, and any improvements needed based on this feedback are implemented.
• Provides updates about service in real time as needed for key stakeholders including Media Relations, as needed.
• Works closely with SEPTA.org team to coordinate real-time service communications.
• Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of transportation and/or communications experience required.
• An equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e., two (2) years of related experience, equating to one (1) year of formal post high school education) may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
• At least two (2) years of supervisory experience highly preferred.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication and people skills.
• Ability to type and use Microsoft Suite of tools required.
• Knowledge of transportation operations required (SEPTA knowledge preferred).
• Familiarity with transit industry technology preferred.
• Knowledge of Labor Agreements and work rules desired.
• Subject to be called outside of normal duty hours. Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and Holidays.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Prior experience in service supervision, dispatching or station manager preferred.
