Description: Under the direction of the Director of Community Engagement, the Assistant Director of Community Education provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and overall administrative oversight for all Community Education divisions, including Early Childhood & Family Education (ECFE), School Readiness (Discovery Learning), and School-Age Child Care (EdVenture Club) programs. The Assistant Director assists the Director in department-wide planning, policy implementation, fiscal management, and staff supervision. This position leads program development across all age groups, ensures alignment with the district's successful learner equation and lifelong learning goals, manages substantial program budgets, and represents the department on district leadership teams and community partnerships.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Leadership & Strategy: Proven executive leadership, organizational, and strategic planning abilities. Expertise in managing organizational change and supporting staff through transition.
• Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to build trust and work collaboratively with diverse audiences including staff, families, school board members, and community leaders.
• Programmatic Expertise: Deep knowledge of operations, services, and best practices across the full spectrum of Community Education (birth to adult), including early childhood development theories, parent education, school-age child care, and adult enrichment.
• Instructional Leadership: Knowledge of teaching principles, curriculum development, assessment, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
• Fiscal Acumen: Advanced skills in budget development, revenue forecasting, expenditure tracking, and grant management within a self-sustaining program model.
• Regulatory & Legal Compliance: Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and reporting standards relative to Early Childhood and Community Education (e.g., MARSS, Frontline, Skyward, MDE reporting).
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in current office technology, spreadsheets, database management, and specialized online registration systems (e.g., Google Workspace, ARUX, Skyward, Microsoft Office).

Qualifications

• Education: Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Community Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field required (Bachelor's degree with significant administrative experience may be considered).
• Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in Community Education, Early Childhood, or public school administration.
• Licensure/Certification: Director of Community Education license, Principal or Administrative license required.
• Demonstrated success in managing complex multi-million dollar budgets, supervising multi-disciplinary teams, and leading community-wide educational initiatives.
