Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an Assistant Director for Cloud Computing to provide technical and strategic leadership for secure research computing environments. The role focuses on transitioning to cloud-based architectures while maintaining on-premises enclaves, aligning with HIPAA, NIST 800-53/800-171, and ISO/IEC 27001 requirements.

The incumbent will design hybrid and cloud-native solutions supporting data analytics with SAS, R, Python, and related platforms,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience with a Master’s degree or 3–5 years with a Bachelor’s degree (combination acceptable).
• Experience designing secure cloud-based research environments is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, and ISO/IEC 27001 is advantageous.
• Familiarity with university/academic research computing environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and operation of secure cloud and on-premises research computing environments.
• Guide hybrid and cloud-native architectures for advanced data analytics (SAS, R, Python).
• Collaborate with researchers, security, governance, and external partners to ensure compliance and scalability.
