Job summary

UC Santa Barbara’s Office of Black Student Development seeks an Assistant Director to lead advocacy, outreach, education, and student life efforts for Black students. The role provides supervision to 3 FTE and 3 additional staff, with oversight of interns, and requires strategic planning and cross-campus collaboration.

The ideal candidate will bring 4–6 years in higher education, strong leadership, and experience developing programs addressing Black students’ needs, while aligning with UCSB’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• 4-6 years professional experience in higher education.
• 4-6 years demonstrated experience with Black students and the broader Black community in a university setting.
• 1-3 years supervision experience.
• 1-3 years experience developing programming for Black students.

Responsibilities

• Oversee community advocacy, outreach, education and student life for the OBSD department.
• Supervise 3 FTE and back up supervision for 3 staff and 8 interns.
• Develop strategic plans and programs aligning with campus priorities.
• Lead training, research integration, and assessment to improve Black student support and academic success.
• Participate in campus committees on advocacy, campus climate, and hate incidents.
