Job summary

Nash Design Group is seeking an Assistant Designer to join a collaborative design team in San Carlos. You will support the Lead Designer across concept development through final installation, assisting with space planning, renderings, material sourcing, and client communication.

You will help manage project documentation, schedules, and budgeting while coordinating with vendors and site teams to ensure timely deliveries and quality results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
  • 1–2 years interior design experience preferred, exceptional entry-level considered.
  • Understanding of design process and project deliverables.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills including space planning.

Responsibilities

  • Support Lead Designer in all phases of design projects from concept to implementation.
  • Create detailed floor plans, layouts, and furniture arrangements.
  • Produce 3D renderings and visualizations for client presentations.
  • Source materials, finishes, and furnishings; maintain materials library.
  • Coordinate ordering of materials and furnishings and manage deliveries.
  • Build strong client relationships and communicate project progress.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers; review quotes and negotiate prices.
  • Prepare design presentations, mood boards, and design boards; maintain project documentation.
  • Assist in project management tasks including scheduling, budget tracking, and on-site coordination.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, detail-oriented, and proactive Assistant Designer with great energy to join a collaborative and passionate firm. You will work closely with a small design team on all aspects of design and project management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to:
  • Support Lead Designer: Collaborate closely with one of our lead interior designers to bring creative visions to life. Assist in all phases of design projects, from concept development to final implementation.
  • Space Planning: Assist in creating detailed floor plans, layouts, and furniture arrangements that optimize space and functionality while adhering to the design aesthetic.
  • Rendering: Create 3D renderings and visualizations to support client presentations.
  • Material and Product Selection: Research and source materials, finishes, furnishings, and accessories in alignment with the project's design concept. Maintain an organized materials library.
  • Ordering and Expediting: Coordinate the ordering of materials and furnishings, expediting deliveries to meet project timelines and ensuring quality control.
  • Client Interaction: Build strong relationships with clients by providing excellent customer service. Keep clients updated on project progress and assist in addressing their inquiries and concerns.
  • Vendor Coordination: Liaise with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and products. Review and compare quotes and negotiate pricing when necessary.
  • Documentation: Prepare design presentations, mood boards, and design boards to visually communicate design concepts to clients. Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
  • Project Management: Assist in project management tasks, including scheduling, budget tracking, and on-site coordination during installations and photoshoots.
  • Trends and Research: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging materials, and design innovations. Share insights and ideas with the design team to enhance creativity.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture
  • Ideally 1-2 years of professional interior design experience; however, NDG is open to considering an exceptional entry-level candidate who demonstrates strong technical skills, initiative, organization, and readiness to grow into the role
  • Understanding of the design process and project deliverables
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including space planning, hand and digital drafting
  • Knowledge of furniture, fabric, and finish resources
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required. Knowledge of Studio Designer, Adobe Suite, SketchUp, Google Workspace, Dropbox, TickTick, and other software is a plus
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively
  • Deadline driven, self motivated and goal oriented with a high attention to detail
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license, their own reliable vehicle, and be comfortable driving to project sites, showrooms, vendor appointments, and other local errands as needed
SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • This is a full-time, onsite position with a schedule of Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 5:45 pm and Friday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
