We are currently seeking a part-time Assistant Dean to join our team in York, PA . Position will be approximately 8 hrs/week to begin with increasing responsibility over time.

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean – Medical School Campus, the Assistant Dean – Student Support – Medical School Campus, is responsible for the oversight, coordination, ongoing assessment of well-being, career and academic advising, and other support services for medical students at the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine at WellSpan Health campus (WellSpan Campus). This role ensures that the medical students have access to appropriate mentoring, academic coaching, medical and behavioral/mental health support services, personal counseling, financial aid assistance, and additional resources to enhance and support their educational and professional development experience. And, to ensure that all of this support is delivered in accordance with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards, medical school and WellSpan Health standard, and educational objectives while fostering an effective learning environment for medical students. This is a WellSpan Health role primarily functioning to support the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine at WellSpan Health campus and students.

Essential Functions
  • Provide primary administrative leadership for student medical and behavioral/mental health coordination, student career advising, academic coaching and remediation processes, the residency interview/Match process, student-run organizations, student well-being, and other aspects of student support.

  • Oversee the structured academic coaching and support process for students at the WellSpan campus, including student evaluations, academic intervention, remediation processes, documentation of academic progression decisions, and United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) preparation and support. Align all of these activities with the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) processes, procedures, and leadership duties in place at the other LKSOM campuses.

  • Ensure confidential student access to personal counseling, medical care, behavioral/mental health care, and ensure confidentiality of student records,encounters and referrals, in accordance with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards, and other regulations.

  • Ensure confidentiality of student educational records, in accordance with LCME accreditation standards, and other regulations.

  • Implement the standard LKSOM monitoring systems and response protocols addressing student mistreatment and learning environment concerns.

  • Oversee and coordinate activities between the Admissions team, Financial Aid team, and Operations team to ensure that financial and other needed support are available to enable students to thrive at the WellSpan Campus.

  • Serve as the primary WellSpan Campus liaison to the Associate Dean – Student Support and other members of the Office of Student Support at the LKSOM North Philadelphia and St. Luke’s campuses.

  • Use student feedback, student outcomes data, and climate data and to inform changes and ongoing WellSpan Campus and LKSOM improvement efforts.

  • Participate in core activities of the WellSpan campus, including serving on the Admissions Subcommittee, new student orientation and intersession activities, Match Day, commencement, and other key student-focused events.

  • Support student-run organizations, clubs, and interest-groups consistent with the mission of the WellSpan Campus, and aimed at enhancing the overall student experience.

  • Participate in all required, or appropriate, Temple LKSOM or WellSpan Health committees, task forces, or workgroups related to medical student support, mental health/counseling support, LCME accreditation, or other medical education collaborations.

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required or

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required

Work Experience
  • 5 years Previous experience in a medical school, health sciences school, or GME setting Required and

  • Prior experience in a medical school regional campus or program, or other Medical Education setting related to teaching and evaluation, interviewing, and admission of medical school applicants, residents/fellows (Graduate Medical Education/GME), or other health education program applicants. Required

Licenses
  • Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or

  • Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training
  • Board Certification in the appropriate Medical Specialty. Upon Hire Required and

  • Receive a faculty appointment, at the appropriate rank, at the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine. within 120 days Required and

  • Complete appropriate faculty development activities, courses, seminars, and/or other sessions, as required to maintain faculty appointment at the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine. within 1 year Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Current knowledge of assessment, evaluation, and remediation processes, and LCME accreditation standards in this area.

  • Skill with utilizing evaluation tools and exam preparation methods.

  • Skill with data analysis and utilizing for continuous quality improvement in student support areas.

  • Ability to lead teams in each of the core student support areas, including academic counseling and preparation, remediation, career counseling and preparation, and medical and behavioral/mental health support.

  • Ability to implement improvement projects based on collected data and feedback.
