Job summary

Valencia College is seeking an Assistant Dean of Engineering and Built Environment to lead instructional leadership for part-time faculty and collaborate with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Chairs. The role focuses on coaching, feedback, and data-driven teaching improvements to enhance student outcomes.

You will oversee hiring, onboarding, and course assignments for part-time faculty across multiple campuses, traveling as needed. The position is primarily on-site with some remote work allowances.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education leadership or academic administration or related experience developing and/or mentoring colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a member of the School’s academic leadership team.
• Provides learning leadership and supervision of part-time faculty, in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean(s), and Chair(s).
• Analyzes course success data for part-time faculty and uses insights to provide instructional support.
• Uses observations, evaluations, course success data, and student feedback to create individualized learning plans for part-time faculty; incorporates constructive feedback to promote growth.
• Serves as a point of contact for discipline-specific issues at assigned locations and addresses student concerns.
• Conducts observations of part-time faculty instructional delivery and assessment practices; provides constructive feedback for improvement.
• Works with colleagues across disciplines to strengthen part-time faculty effectiveness.
• Supports adoption and implementation of instructional materials for part-time faculty.
• Manages full-cycle hiring & discipline-specific onboarding for part-time faculty.
• Collaborates with college and academic leadership on part-time faculty course assignment based on enrollment trends and targets, ensuring alignment with the college’s strategic enrollment management plan.
• Analyzes student success and placement data to inform curricular discussions with transfer institutions and/or industry partners.
• Ensures part-time faculty adheres to compliance, accreditation, and instructional expectations.
