Position Overview

Are you passionate about positively impacting the lives of others and making waves in the world of early childhood education? As an Assistant Daycare Director, you will play a key role in ensuring the success of the center.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Center Director to provide a nurturing, enriching, and safe learning environment for children while fostering positive relationships with staff and families. You will help lead the center to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Center Director in managing teaching staff, supporting families, and ensuring that enrollment, accreditation, and operational goals are met.
  • Partner with parents to create a shared commitment to providing the best care and education for their children.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with families, teachers, state licensing authorities, community contacts, and corporate partners.
  • Oversee the center’s day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with state licensing requirements and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Lead by example and step into roles as needed, including teacher, cook, or driver.
  • Support staff development through coaching, training, and regular performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • A minimum of an Associate Degree in child development or early childhood education OR 64 semester hours in any discipline with at least 21 hours of college credit in child development, early childhood education, or early childhood special education.
  • ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
  • Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential OR 3 semester hours of college credit in administration, leadership, or management OR 3 points of credential-approved training in administration, leadership, or management.

At least 2 years of experience in a daycare or early childhood education setting.

  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and the ability to ensure their application in the classroom.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with excellent verbal, listening, and communication abilities.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use a computer with basic proficiency.
  • Physically able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work indoors or outdoors as needed.
  • Flexibility to assume low-level postures to maintain physical and visual contact with children.
  • Ability to see and hear well enough to keep children safe and engage in physical activities.
