Job summary

Texas Wesleyan University is seeking an assistant coach to support the head coach in all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program. The role emphasizes recruiting qualified student-athletes, supervising student assistants, fundraising, and ensuring academic eligibility and compliance.

The incumbent will help manage budgets, schedule events, coordinate travel, and engage with the campus community while maintaining high standards of sportsmanship and integrity.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years’ experience in coaching or playing sport at collegiate or university level or equivalency at lower level.
• Knowledge of NAIA policies and procedures.
• Ability to drive a 15-passenger van with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in recruiting and maintaining a quota of qualified student-athletes.
• Assist the head coach in hiring, training, and supervising student assistant coaches.
• Assist the head coach in fundraising for appropriate dollar amounts.
• Assist the head coach in effectively coaching his/her team.
• Assist the head coach in ensuring GPA and eligibility requirements.
• Assist the head coach in developing a yearly budget and controlling spending.
• Assist the head coach in planning intercollegiate meets.
• Assist the head coach in scheduling contests with approvals.
• Assist the head coach in complying with NAIA recruitment requirements.
• Assist the head coach in completing monthly reports.
• Supervise student-athletes during practice and games.
• Assist in developing, writing and administering a yearly plan.
• Assist in evaluating the program continuously.
• Arrange for athletic awards in their area.
• Represent the University in public presentations as needed.
• Conduct outreach activities in the local community.
• Arrange safe transportation for student-athletes to away contests.
