Job summary

Monmouth University is seeking an Assistant Cross Country/Track and Field Coach for its Athletics department in West Long Branch, NJ. The role focuses on training year-round, scheduling meets, coordinating travel, and leading event-specific instruction.

The candidate will oversee recruiting efforts, manage equipment orders, monitor academics, and collaborate with staff to ensure NCAA compliance and program excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Three years coaching experience at high school or college level in cross country/track and field, or four years collegiate competition.
• Proven coaching and recruiting success.
• Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Valid driver's license and clean record.
• CPR and NCAA recruiting certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to use various computer software programs.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
• Commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee year-round training for track/cross-country student-athletes.
• Schedule meets and arrange travel and meals as needed.
• Direct event-specific instruction during practices and meets.
• Oversee recruiting (visits, calls, emails) with staff.
• Coordinate equipment orders for team use.
• Monitor student-athlete academic progress and NCAA eligibility.
• Conduct regular recruiting mailings and weekly calls.
• Coordinate fundraising with the Blue and White club.
• Plan and lead team and individual meetings.
• Assist with hosting home meets and coordinating weight room sessions.
• Work with strength coaches to create training plans.
