The ideal candidate will mentor less experienced attorneys, lead complex litigation, advise County officials on ordinances and contracts, and coordinate investigations to advance efficient, lawful outcomes.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Iowa.

Responsabilités

• Represent the County in criminal, juvenile, and civil matters at all levels.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced attorneys; may assign and review work.
• Conduct interviews with complainants and witnesses; prepare and present evidence; perform legal research.
• Serves as legal advisor to County officials on ordinances, contracts, deeds, and other documents.
• Assess case merits and oversee pretrial conferences; recommend dispositions in line with office policies.
• Prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs; draft Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law.
• Respond to inquiries from law enforcement and other parties; represent County in events and hearings.
• Provide legal counsel to law enforcement and other personnel; pursue appeals as warranted.
• Analyze cases to determine optimal strategies; negotiate outcomes.
• Coordinate and oversee investigative functions and supervise staff.
• Advise on office policies and procedural enhancements.
