Job summary

HireIQ is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join a growing residential property management team in New York. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will contribute to financial reporting across a multi-family portfolio and participate in leadership activities.

You will prepare monthly and quarterly statements, manage closings, budgets, and cost analysis, and collaborate closely with legal, leasing, and compliance teams to support client needs while strengthening internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
• Real estate property management accounting experience preferred.
• Experience using Yardi Voyager required.
• Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and cost analysis.
• Experience leading and mentoring accounting staff.
• Strong Excel skills; willing to learn new systems.
• Affordable housing experience (LIHTC, Section 8, HUD).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements, including variance analysis.
• Lead financial reporting meetings with clients and investors.
• Support timely monthly closings across multiple client portfolios (Affordable Housing).
• Assist with annual budgets, financial projections, and cost analysis.
• Oversee the accounting onboarding process for new clients.
• Work with legal, leasing, and compliance teams to support client needs.
• Maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes and workflows.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and support special projects across the portfolio.
