Job summary

X-Factor Consulting is assisting a client in the Louisville, KY area to hire an Assistant Controller. This role reports to the Corporate Controller and will oversee accounting operations, build the team, and drive process improvements.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and expertise with ERP systems and Excel. Responsibilities include audits, forecasting, and detailed financial analysis to support leadership decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including percentage of completion and sales/use tax processes.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and integrated accounting systems.
• Expertise with accounting software platforms and strong Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Ability to operate independently while contributing within a team.
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving aptitude.
• Experience with ERP implementations or upgrades a plus.
• Multi-state sales/use tax compliance knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, train, and mentor accounting staff; assign work and ensure timely completion.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per standards.
• Ensure GAAP compliance, tax regulations, and policies across accounting activities.
• Coordinate and support internal and external audits.
• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Direct daily accounting functions:GL, inventory, AP, AR, tax, fixed assets.
• Provide financial analysis to guide leadership decisions.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Handle sales/use tax reconciliations and property tax returns.
• Propose and implement process improvements and system enhancements.
