North Star Resource Group is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the accounting function, oversee internal controls, and coordinate with advisors and staff. The role emphasizes process improvement, staff supervision, and accurate financial reporting within a financial services environment.

The candidate should have a bachelor’s in accounting (CPA preferred), 3–5 years in accounting, and strong proficiency in ERP systems (Great Plains, Business Central) and QuickBooks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
• 3–5 years experience in accounting, financials, and financial services preferred.
• Previous experience supervising accounting staff preferred.
• ERP accounting systems familiarity (e.g., Great Plains, Business Central); strong QuickBooks and related software knowledge.
• Strong curiosity and ability to identify and implement process improvements; AI in accounting is a plus.
• Extremely high attention to detail and accuracy; confidentiality.
• Excellent Excel skills and ability to work with large data files.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting department and internal auditing.
• Supervise, train and mentor accounting dept staff.
• Serve as liaison between advisors and the accounting team.
• Oversee AP/AR workflows.
• Test and maintain internal financial controls.
• Oversee benefits administration.
• Oversee advisor commissions process.
• Reconcile complex bank and general ledger accounts.
• Assist with tax preparation and filings.
• Manage client/vendor relationships (office supplies, rent, copiers).
• Oversee accounting for NS-related organizations (NS Tax, NSRG Ventures, Charitable Foundation).
