Job summary

Dulles Plumbing Group, a VMG Company, is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our growing team in Ashburn, VA. This role supports monthly close, journal entries, and project financial reporting, working closely with Project Managers and operations leaders.

You will help monitor job costing, WIP, and project forecasts, while strengthening internal controls and preparing financial statements. A CPA candidate is a plus, with strong Excel and ERP experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Construction, mechanical contracting, general contracting, or specialty contracting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems.
• CPA or CPA candidate is a plus but not required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication with financial and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
• Assist with financial statements and management reporting.
• Review job costing, project financials, and WIP reporting.
• Monitor project costs, revenue, margins, billings, and other financial activity.
• Partner with Project Managers and operations to forecast and report financially.
• Oversee accounts payable and assist with accounts receivable and billing.
• Assist with payroll processing and related accounting functions.
• Support cash management, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Support annual audits and preparation of documentation.
• Assist with fixed assets, licenses, taxes, and other financial requirements.
• Identify improvements to processes, reports, controls, and efficiency.
• Provide guidance to accounting team members and support leadership.
