Job summary

Legence, through its Bowers subsidiary, seeks an Assistant Controller in Beltsville, MD to lead financial reporting, close processes, and compliance. This is an in-office role supporting cross‑functional teams and audit activities.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in accounting (Big 4 preferred), strong US GAAP knowledge, and experience with ASC 606 and percentage-of-completion. CPA preferred; construction background a plus.

Qualifications

• Seven+ years of accounting experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) or corporate accounting.
• Public accounting experience is required for this role.
• CPA certification strongly preferred.
• Construction industry experience strongly preferred.
• Firm knowledge of US GAAP.
• Strong knowledge of ASC 606 and percentage of completion accounting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets, interim forecasts, and corporate reporting.
• Prepare and analyze internal KPI dashboards, monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and related schedules.
• Oversee month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Participate in annual audit and quarterly review procedures.
• Fully utilize ERP software to achieve financial objectives.
• Assist in tax documentation preparation and schedules.
• Collaborate with IT to maintain financial records and systems.
• Identify workflow gaps and implement process improvements.
• Ensure internal controls are in place and followed.
• Maintain capital expenditures and fixed asset accounting.
• Manage AR, AP, job costing/contracts, and general ledger.
• Develop and maintain percentage of completion accounting and project forecasting.
• Prepare monthly reports for projects, collections, billings, contracts, and WIP.
• Lead or support analyses and ad hoc reporting.
• Participate in continuous improvement.
• Supervise and develop a staff of 4–8 accounting professionals.
• Other duties as assigned.
