Job summary

Staff Financial Group in Atlanta is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its commercial real estate accounting team. This role focuses on financial statements, general ledgers, reconciliations, project cash flows, and development entity reporting.

The candidate will work closely with development and accounting leadership to ensure accurate reporting for multiple properties and development projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial statements, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience with commercial real estate, property accounting, development accounting, or construction accounting strongly preferred.
• Hands‑on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and month‑close.
• Experience preparing property‑level financial statements and handling tenant billing.
• Experience preparing and analyzing financial and cost reports.
• Understanding of acquisition, disposition, and placed‑in‑service accounting.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple properties, projects, and reporting deadlines.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with accounting and development professionals.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements, balance sheet account reconciliations, and related financial analysis.
• Oversee cash flow sources for construction and development projects.
• Reconcile bank accounts and subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger and balance sheet accounts.
• Perform daily cost tracking, research, and analysis.
• Create daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports.
• Maintain development general ledgers and financial statements for individual properties.
• Prepare development entity financial reporting for monthly review with development and accounting managers.
• Record accounting journal entries related to acquisitions, dispositions, and assets placed in service.
• Research discrepancies and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of development accounting records.
