Job summary

A fast-growing software and analytics company in the DC metro area seeks an Assistant Controller to own the accounting function end-to-end and build infrastructure in a lean environment.

You will lead the full close cycle (month, quarter, year), refine processes, implement policies and internal controls, oversee subscription revenue recognition, optimize the accounting system, and prepare leadership-facing financials.

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience required.
• Experience in software/SaaS or subscription models.
• Strong GAAP and ASC 606 knowledge.
• Hands-on QuickBooks experience in early-stage environments.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the full accounting cycle, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
• Clean up and enhance existing accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and scalability
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Manage revenue recognition, with a focus on subscription-based revenue models
• Maintain and optimize current accounting system
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for leadership
• Partner with leadership on financial insights, reporting, and operational decision-making
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party partners
• Drive process improvements and prepare the organization for future system upgrades (ERP readiness)
• Participate in hiring and building out the accounting team over time

• Comfortable working independently in a lean, fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
• Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders
